I feel the same way, Galactica was her home. but it's interesting that, if I remember correctly, in the daybreak during the flashbacks, she says that the rent is good. and she seems so quiet, at ease... so probably she started to hate the place after Zak's death. so maybe the point is that Kara feels at home when there is an Adama around... or at least I like to think that way.
But I think in Daybreak she actually says to Lee when he tries to compliment it that she knows the place is a "rat trap, but the rent is right." Or something like that. So I believe that she never really liked it (although, before, it looked like a nice apartment and not a rat trap at all!)
It's so interesting. I'm not quite sure if the Daybreak flashbacks all match up with what came previously. For example, she tells Lee in Daybreak that she's afraid of being forgotten. That doesn't match up her once telling Lee that one day some metal motherfrakker was just going to blow them away someday. She didn't seem that worried about being forgotten then. It's so . . . unclear. Maybe in Scar she was really worried about being like Reilly's girlfriend, but even in that episode it's so murky and unclear why she's challenging Scar. It seemed like it was about her feeling bad for leaving Sam behind. I admit I really do not know.
In conclusion, I can't always make the stuff from the finale match what came earlier. And I've tried! But I do agree with you that Kara felt at home with certain people. Zak, Helo, Lee, Adama. I think even her teasing with Chief felt like home too. At least it did to me when I watched them.
Now I'm missing them! Missing Chief say "Be nice." Yep. That place did feel like it was home for them in my eyes.
