Fic rec: Make Your Own by inlovewithnight 

An oldie but a goodie, this is a look at four moments in Kara's life: her mother and her faith, being a pilot and meeting Zak, analyzing Cain and plotting how to handle her, and explaining flying vipers to Helo. Words are kind of failing me today but basically it's all about how Kara refuses to conform and is just so....*herself*. Yeah. There's not a whole lot of Starbuck-being-awesome or Starbuck-winning-at-life in this fandom (angst--esp. relationship angst--is all too easy when it comes to our girl), but this fic feels like that even though it's quiet and internal mostly and doesn't feature much death-defying action. It's about her strength of character and independence and skill and her stubborn confidence that exists despite her background and her self-doubt in other areas. It's about no one changing her or oppressing her or reducing her. It's about Kara, undiluted.  ♥
