This is a prompt-driven GENERAL fanfiction battle (much in the vein of the porn battles, but hold the smut).

General fanfiction may include allusions to romantic relationships, maybe even employ romance as an element to illustrate a larger theme, but, romance, or the lack of it, should not be the point of focus for the story.

Action-Adventure, Friendship, Humor, Angst, Comfort, all of these are good categories to explore. Kara could lead a mission, make a sacrifice, exact revenge, solve a mystery, confess a secret, come to a decision, teach a student, go on a quest, reflect on a mistake, celebrate a victory, learn a lesson, question an order, save a life, or roll the hard six (just to name a few options). The possibilities are endless.

The Fic Battle closes July 31 at 11:59 PM EST.

Really? Ha. Thanks. This one gave me a few fits. I had much more about Seelix in there (including them talking about how she was steady on Kobol when they crashed there and socinus died, and also about how Kara used to tease Sam that Seelix had a crush on him/was always making eyes at him in the early days on New Caprica!) but it was feeling very flat and needed to be more about Kara.

It's hard because the show kind of abandoned her after Rapture and before Maelstrom, and the couple brief glances we got she seemed totally normal, but yeah, I would think she was pretty lonely because she'd lost her usual place with almost everyone. Sigh.

I love Kara and Chief interacting. There was not enough of that on the show for me. I wrote one fic with them but I think I will have to do more in the future. Thanks so much girl!

It's funny... the whole thing about Karl just wanting to be her friend and not anything else... it reminds me of one of my favorite fics, which I was just re-reading last night. About Faith actually, and she has a confusing moment when she meets someone who doesn't want anything from her. I dunno... it just felt comfortable, a nice parallel for our girls at least in my head... though I see nothing in commmon between Helo and Ten... except I think this icon is called for now.

I do kind of believe that maybe they hooked up once in a while later, but I still get such a no-strings-attached vibe from them. I think maybe Kara would be surprised to have a guy in her life who doesn't want anything from her. (Look at the show alone: Lee, Sam, Leoben, Zak, the Admiral...everybody wants something.)

Gah I know about season 3! Me too! I had to consult the bsg wiki for more on Seelix and Dirty Hands. They were so uneven with Kara too, it went from her being tormented in the early episodes to just fine on the surface and then suddenly at the start of Maelstrom she's tormented again. I imagine it was a pretty lonely time for her, and that she felt out of place with everyone. The admiral hadn't really interacted with her much, Lee broke things off and was treating her with kids' gloves, Sam had left at that point (I guess). Poor girl.

Thanks for the feedback about cutting the early portion...right on the money there.

Aww, thanks! Mythology like this is strangely hard to write. But I like the idea of Kara coming up with a story like that, while grounding it in something akin to her own reality. :)
