I know Scar was such a low point for Kara, but DANG she looks good in that top pic! Of course, I've always thought Starbuck looked good in the Starpony :)
I love Scar, despite that there's a lot of ideas floated in it that I don't particularly like or find credible. But Katee looks soo frakking fantastic in that episode. She just glows. Especially in the scene with Sharon in the brig. I don't know I just think she looks really gorgeous there.
Which ones, specifically? (I found the Kat storyline a bit of a stinker, esp. after she was a total stim junkie who had to wave off landings not more than a few months previously, and from there to becoming Top Gun? Was that beer stein meant to go to whoever had the most kills that week or something, because I don't ever see Kat winning on all-time kills).
But I loved the ep too, and her scene with Sharon was so sad - you actually did get the sense that Kara and Boomer were friends, and what she lost to the knowledge that she was a Cylon.
Mainly that she is suddenly so distraught about her one-night-stAnders that she starts fucking up at her job continuously, and that he is her "reason to live for." It just...seems seriously pathetic and also illogical to me. I know, I know, Guilt is her M.O., it was a very intense situation on Caprica, shades of Zak, breaking her promise, blah blah blah fishcakes. I still can't get behind it. (And I absolutely can not believe that if she finally got down on the table again with Lee that she'd even be able to remember Sam's name, because it would be such a huge thing. But since the table is pretty retconny....)
And similarly that just a few months after learning to fly, Kat, who was a fuckup on stims, busting her landings, is suddenly so good that she is a better shot (remember Kara's "I'm the best shot in or out of the cockpit"?), a better INSTRUCTOR, and a better pilot than Kara, the fleet's top gun who was better than Adama. I think they really went overboard on a few of those things.
BUT, I think Katee's acting is magnificent in this one especially. The drinking scene with Lee and actually the brig scene with Sharon both blow me away and I absolutely love the maturity they give Kara at the end where she willingly steps aside and lets Kat have the shot, and then how she kind of steals her thunder anyway with the speech at the the end. I love all the stuff with Lee, because the drinking scenes show how much he cares about her and how good their friendship is, the sex scene is pretty damn hot and actually reveals one big truth about Kara (her Dead-Guy Issues), the apology kiss she gives him, plus the way he just says "Are you ok?" after he catches Kat punching her, after everything and the way he stands up for her at the end won me over completely as a Lee fan forever. That was the moment that I fully fully was like 'Yeah, okay, this Leland is a good egg." And finally I think the fake wrestling with Helo is completely adorable. :)

Oh, absolutely (and LOL at one-night-stAnders!). I was actually glad when he stopped them, because even non-sex would be better than pilots sexing for the first time when Kara was thinking of someone else....and the "reason to live for" thing, I never bought it either, but I guess I talked myself into being ok with it since her whole thing with Anders was about what he represented (Zak mk. II) and not what he really was, with large doses of her own guilt and self-loathing playing a prominent part in their relationship. I mean, they looked like they had a good relationship on New Caprica before the Cylons came, but Kara seemed miserable otherwise.
And the aborted sexing in Scar is what actually makes Unfinished Business so much more heartbreaking when you come to it - we've seen for ourselves that Lee's capable of putting his own feelings for her aside and hearing her out when she admits there's someone else in the picture even when they're seconds away from doing it, and for a friendship that strong to break, you KNOW something terrible had to have happened.
point is that Kat is not a better pilot. at all. and the episode didn't say that. Kat missed Scar, and if it wasn't for Kara that understood what was going on, bringing Scar right in front of Kat, that little annoying girl would be dead. period. Kat didn't earn the top gun mug.
and about the shooting scene, I can't help but thinking that Kara did four on five at her first attempting, while Kat spent days training to be better that Kara.
