Kat
: You think I'm a traitor. You think I'm a traitor?
Starbuck: No. I don't think you're a traitor. You're a smart young woman, that's what the old man said. [Kat swallows.] You're just not smart enough to accept who you are. [Kat whimpers.] You see, you lied your way into the company of good people.
Kat begins to weep: Starbuck, don't tell the admiral. Please. Please don't, or I --
Starbuck: Or what?
Kat: Starbuck, please just let me tell him myself. Please just let me. Can you do that?
(Long pause.)
Starbuck, disgusted: Gods.
(Kat sobs as Starbuck leaves her, alone.)

Do you think Kara was voicing internal fears here? That she felt this way sometimes? (I know it wasn't intentional, at least as far as The Passage podcast transcript doesn't acknowledge it at all, and later Kara recants and says "she didn't mean that".)

I agree with your reasoning. Kara saw a lot of herself in Kat and I think part of her doesn't believe that she deserves the love of other people, especially Adama and Lee.

I must say that this was one of the scenes when I had hard time liking Kara. I have never been fond of Kat, but the way Kara treated her was awful.

Absolutely. This is absolute projection on Kara's part. This dynamic really defines their relationship. I think they see a lot of each themselves in the other, and it makes them lash out much more than they ordinarily would.

And yeah, I still think it's in character. And while it's not nice, per se, this is how she and Kat relate to each other. See a weakness-- go for it.

(Agreed on Gaeta. That felt cruel for cruelty's sake and that's not like her. She'll flay the skin off someone without hesitation, but she's got to have a reason.)

Probably came down to too many damn characters on the show. They really got bogged down in S3. It got to be a circus for a while there.

My brain is fail too. : )

This scene seemed to mirror Scar, IMO. One of them is laying into the other with some pretty heavy accusations, and in both I think Kara is definitely projecting, probably unknowingly.

I doubt that Kara really ever stopped to think about why Kat was so successful at getting to her when she could blow off most others. And then there is Tigh. It's funny that these characters, that are so alike, piss each other off so often :)

I never thought that Kara ever really doubted who she was (pre-death, that is!) so much as she might occasionally have questioned how in the world she'd managed to find acceptance and love on Galactica and whether she was worthy of that.

I can certainly imagine a lot of doubts in her head re: "lying her way into the company of good people" for those two years before the attacks, what with her guilt over Zak and her fear that PapAdama would reject her if he knew the truth about the failed flight test.
