Interesting that they were still covering Katee's cross tattoo with a bandaid. I guess the theory was that she got the pyramid tattoo after the wedding tattoo. (Huh, I think I just gave myself a ficlet idea.)
I have to admit that I kind of love that they don't address Katee's tattoos in canon except to hide/ cover the cross tattoo, but that Kara gets another when she marries Sam. Provides lots of room for speculation.
Also, in these pics, we really get to see the maturation of Katee as Kara; compared to how she looked in the mini, she looks so much more settled into herself. Not as lanky and a lot wiser.
It's hard to believe she was just 22 when she filmed the mini. She has such authority in the role that I often forget that. But yes, she definitely looks older and wiser here (although...not sure if Kara actually *was* any wiser ;)
Completely agreed. It's weird to think that RDM & Co. wrote the female Starbuck role as someone in her mid-30's; I think Katee's relatively young age paired with, as you said, her authority in the role really gave it some fabulous and maybe unexpected intensity.
Kara was definitely not wiser at this point... She learned, but she didn't always take in her lessons, especially as they pertained to matters of the heart.
Also, I'd *love* to read tattoo fic if you write it! There's a great book about writers & tattoos called Dorothy Parker's Elbow. Good stuff!
I just can't imagine anyone else playing Starbuck at all. But based on the series bible I picture someone more like Michele Forbes in the role. Forbes is fantastic, but I think Katee's youth/exuberance did so much to balance out the harder aspects of Kara, that I can't imagine anyone else's portrayal being so captivating.
Hmmm. Come to think of it, I've only written about Kara's tattoos through Lee's eyes/POV previously...
Ooh, do you have links for the previous tattoo fics you're written? Would love to read if they're handy. Also, do you have a favorite of her tattoos?
One thing I'm curious about is how anyone in the BSG-verse who wasn't a prisoner was able to get a safe tattoo after the worlds ended. It doesn't seem likely that there was a tattoo artist just hanging out on one of the civilian ships, all of their equipment at the ready for newlywed pilots, say...
There is just no way in the world anyone but Katee could have played Kara. I'm so glad the casting directors didn't throw her out for being too young, and that she fell in love with the part in the first place!
Kara is a positive minefield of a character who could have come off as all asshole and no lovable in the hands of the wrong actress (i.e. anyone but Katee), but Katee just brought a spark and a presence to it that I cannot ever imagine any other actress - including ones I love and admire gratly - replicating.
She looks very young in miniseries, on the other hand, her youth resulted in great dynamics with the Old Man for example, since she was SO his favorite child in S1 and S2, and I am not sure I would buy it so easily, if was was older (on mid30s).
Agreed. She is stunning in this episode. She's always stunning, but here especially. And I think that she totally kills it in this scene with the expressiveness of her face. My face has like happy, mad, and sad but homegirl up there can convey every subtle emotion in the spectrum of human feelings. Jealous! :)

Also? Guh!

I just thought she looked gorgeous framed by the dark blue background of night here.
