It's a very Katee week here so far (don't worry Kara posts are coming too--and don't miss the awesome meta that
rayruz posted on her many layers--she's like an onion she is!--last night), and here's more exciting news. She'll be lending her voice to Star Wars: The Clone Wars on the Cartoon Network, for the episode "A Friend in Need." It airs at 8 pm EST. Katee plays a (possibly the very first!) female Mandalorian, Bo-Katan. Check out the clip below--she has one line at the very end when the Mandalorians drop in.

Date: 2012-01-10 08:22 pm (UTC)She's not the first female Mandalorian in the series, though. Mandalore is ruled over by a Duchess according to this cartoon to start with! However, I'm not sure, she might be the first female Mandalorian warrior (as opposed to civilian) to show up on the show/in the movies (in the show, Mandalore is a pacifist world with the Death Watch - the people showing up here - being a minority group that continues to follow their ancient warrior traditions). But if you count all the comics/novels/games, etc., then there are a fair few female Mandalorian warriors.

Date: 2012-01-10 08:29 pm (UTC)I thought maybe she was not, even though I think I recall EW posting that she WAS when they first reported the news. I vaguely recalled someone in the comments there saying "Hey, that's not the first..." Possibly she's the first female M warrior (are they bounty hunters?) on the show though? I'm not totally sure.

Date: 2012-01-11 12:23 am (UTC)It doesn't surprise me they'd bill her that way though. The mainstream media is selective when it comes to remembering that there's more to Star Wars than the movies and this TV show. Which mostly only amuses me because it makes sense to separate the original films from the rest of the spinoffs, etc., (some of which are direct from Lucasfilm and some of which are licensed with oversight), but this TV show is just the highest profile spinoff. In the (hilarious that it even exists) system of canonical hierarchy that exists to determine what supersedes what when canon conflicts, this show isn't in that top tier of movie canon.
Um, again, shit you probably don't care about but I can answer since you mentioned it - no Mandalorians aren't bounty hunters, but they sometimes work as bounty hunters. They more often work as mercenaries. Basically "Mandalorian" just means "from Mandalore" but as I said, they are mostly hippie peaceniks with a bunch of really angry, um, renn faire separatists who are supercommandos and who go around the galaxy beating shit up for money and occasionally trying to take back their homeland from those damn hippies. ;) And Katee is probably voicing the first female one of those outside of books and comics.
In any event, like I said, the last time the Mandos showed up it was pretty cool, so hopefully we'll see more of her. She might even get an action figure - Star Wars is super awesome for making action figures of everyone.
