Let's talk about Kara and Karl. Is Helo the closest thing Kara has to a best friend? Why do you think they hit it off so well?
The show tells us they met in Boot Camp (deleted scene btw Sharon and Kara in 4.0), but what's your personal canon
for how they met and became friends? What's your favorite Kara and Helo scene? What else would you have liked to see
them do that the show didn't focus on?

Huh, I don't remember that 4.0 scene, but that was my personal canon as well. Helo seems like a rather more well-adjusted version of Kara: he's got the same buck-the-authority attitude as well as a respect for military rules, he had the same playboy nature as well as a deep loyalty to his special few, he's got a similar optimism, and maybe the only thing he doesn't have (other than Kara's pure genius) is her perfectionism. I imagine that he's like Kara's older brother, but raised in a different happier family. So I think for Kara, it was like meeting a mirror, but one that didn't display only her faults...so of course they hit it straight off.

I do like the fight sequences in Scar, especially the end, improv though it may be, of her exaggerated drop-elbow strike and his tapping out. So adorable. <3 But I think my favorite would be their meeting on Caprica with the epic hug and angst, followed closely by their banter around her house in Valley of Darkness, and followed closely by them with the truck in Resistance. As you see, I do love them dearly and find it hard to choose. ;-)

Hee. My brain is so full of fanon Kara/Helo, that I don't even know what canon is anymore! I love all of the fic that portrays them as knowing each other in childhood. I love the idea that Helo knew Kara before she joined the military because I love the fic glimpses into Kara's life during that time.

I would have also loved to have seen MUCH more Kara/Helo later in the series. Especially around the time when she returned after the Maelstrom. I don't remember a scene where Karl expressed his feelings about her returning. There are scenes of them together on Demetrius, of course, and the scene where he gives her the box of her things, but I don't remember anything significant that addresses her return. (Memory = fail, so I might be forgetting something.)

I like the idea of Kara and Karl knowing each other early on, may be even before the Academy, but I don't Karl would've let Kara stay in such a abusive home. I think they met at the Academy because she kicked his ass at triad or something and he didn't see it coming. He was going to pick a fight and she beat him to the punch literally. And after that they were good.

I adored Karl until the Demetrius arc. I couldn't stand the fact that he didn't believe her after everything she did for him and Sharon, she believed in them when no one else did. Of course, I loved Karl again when he gave her things back which meant that he kept them (because Lee couldn't).

Favorite Kara/Karl scene, there aren't many but when she realizes he is alive on Caprica, that reunion was lovely.

I'm with you, Tara. Kara was completely out of control at that point and needed to be checked, not enabled.

I agree with you on that but it seemed like when she was looking for a friend in a desperate situation, he hung her out to dry and I think that bothered me more then anything.

No him revoking her command towards the end before the shots were fired was understandable. What I didn't understand was when the pilots and the crew was bad mouthing her, saying Starbuck had finally gone postal, no one was there to defend her. Even when Athena didn't stand up for when they were calling her things. I liked that he went to check on her to make sure she was okay but I can imagine how Kara felt when her only friend on the ship might have not believed her.

I think he pistol-whips Pike, actually.

And it's hard to be upset with Helo. At that moment, Kara is trusting an "evil" Cylon and endangering the entire crew. There wasn't much else he could do, in good conscience.

I agree - Kara was right, obviously, but Helo had no way of knowing that because he didn't have access to the scripts. I feel about Helo on the Demetrius the way I felt about every decision Gaeta has ever made, pretty much. XD
