TRUE I think for the most part yes. When Kara Thrace puts her mind towards something she wants - she fights for it or accomplishes it.
She's honestly a hard person to say no to, because while people might not always like her approach, she almost always has a compelling and legitimate argument for what it is she's either trying to do, get or accomplish.
Now, whether or not she lets herself have what it she wants/deserves might be a whole other messy topic.
Ditto -- I think that's part of her genius, and something many people (especially her superiors) often miss. That she doesn't just say things like "your plan sucks," she can articulate why and propose a much better plan. ♥ ♥ ♥
Hmmmmm. She does seem to get what she wants whenever she sets out to get something. She'll just bend the rules, right, if she's not allowed, and do it anyway. She takes the stealth ship to get pictures of the Resurrection ship, she ends up getting the Demetrius to find Earth, she gets her mission to rescue Samders, she gets the Arrow of Apollo, etc etc. She also gets Lee and Sam in her bed when she wants it.
The only thing I can think of that she doesn't accomplish/gain despite her efforts is to to escape from Leoben. Oh, and also, to kill Scar.
The heart of this question, though, is the bigger things in life -- does she get what she wants out of life? As for that, I don't know. For one thing, it's pretty damned hard to know what Kara really, deeply wants. We don't even know who she wants most of the time, which should be a pretty simple question. As for the big things? I'm trying to think of things she's mentioned that she wants:
- not to be forgotten - a bright, shiny future/happy ending (I think that can be inferred from "Scar") - to have contributed to the wellbeing of her peeps (inferred from her fear that she's a "cancer") - to be forgiven for the things she's done wrong
I think she gets the first and last. I also think that the finale was supposed to indicate that SHE FEELS that she has contributed to her people -- right? She's supposed to be all at peace and whatever. And she does lead them all to Earht. While I don't think she gets the bright, happy ending she was talking about -- ie, a life on Earth -- I think the "see you on the other side" comments were supposed to be her happy ending.
professionally, true. (and her job as savior of humanity goes in this category too) personally, well this is more complicated. the problem is that most of the time Kara sabotages herself doesn't allowing herself to even want what she really wants. as she said: you should hear the way my brain works sometimes...

I think she superficially gets what she wants, but her real needs/wants? Not so much: I think she wanted her father to come back, and her mother to love her (in a nonviolent, nonabusive way) and to be happy with Zak, and none of those things ever happened for her. So I would say ... her speech to Cain is about 90% bravado and not backing down so Cain doesn't rip out her throat. (Also, the 'shipper in me thinks she's talking about wanting Lee here, so that makes me happy :D)

Mmm, so true. It seems like she got a lot of the things SHE had some control over, but when it came to other people, not so much. So all the things you mentioned, plus Sam dying, plus Lee choosing Dee... yeah, other people really screwed her over, didn't they? (although I guess the Lee thing is partly her fault)

So on the whole, I guess I vote for True.
