So, in Ron Moore's original show bible for BSG, which seems to have been "re-discovered" recently and talked about quite a bit, he posited an idea that Kara and Baltar would be a bit more serious, long-term couple on the show. Seems hard to even imagine that knowing how it played out now, but early on, the two shared a few charged moments like this one from "Water".

What do you think Kara really felt about Baltar? How much attraction do you think she actually had for him? What are the qualities that you think appealed to her about him?

Well, I think it's pretty clear that she's drawn to the idea of a challenge. She doesn't give him a second thought until he bests her at triad. Still, I don't think she ever respected him or actually liked him, so...glad they didn't go down that route!

She probably found his quirkiness different than the usual GI jocks she was use to being with. I think 'different' and 'fun to mock' might have been enough to lure her to dally his way for a short time.

At least until the 'creep quota' became too high :)

Heeee. Not surprised that was in the bible, you can definitely see where they were flirting with it in season one.

I like what [livejournal.com profile] mserrada said about the quirky factor. I think she was slightly entertained by his unusual-ness for a little while and it was a different energy than typical guys hitting on her or the other way around. I don't think she was strongly attracted to him except in fleeting yeah-I-can-see-it moments; it would always veer toward repulsion the more time she spent around him. I think by the time they slept together it was already something she'd regret... not necessarily self-destructive, but a bad drunk/horny judgment.

I think it played out exactly as it should have. Any longer relationship between the two of them would have been... unthinkable.

I dunno about her appreciation of his quirkiness; the whole thing seemed pretty physical to me. She definitely did not respect him.

Love their chemistry, though!

I agree that attraction was certainly physical. And, I think, Kara's natural attraction to a challenge or adventure. But I don't think there was any emotional involvement.

I'm not surprised the Show Bible went there, but I always thought the real reason she slept with him was mainly because he was about as different from Lee as it was possible to get while still remaining human.

She seemed plenty repulsed by Baltar by then, too- I think she just found the seemingly-crazy doc fun to tease in the early part of the season, but anything beyond that..
