Katee Sackhoff (BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, 24) is Vic Moretti. My webmaster says we just got the geek-boy demographic with this one--I think we got the rancher one as well. I went back through a few of her performances as Starbuck and more importantly her interviews online and about died laughing—she’s got quite a mouth on her and a Vic attitude. She IS Vic. The executive crew had a hard time with this one; trying to find a young woman who was sexy but still looked like she could put you in a reverse-wristlock and plant your face on the hood of your car. I truly think they did it.
In other interviews, Johnson had said that the question he got asked most when people heard about the TV show was not who would play Walt but who would play Vic. Apparently a lot of the Wyoming farmers had strong opinions on who should play the sexy-but-tough deputy. Obviously, they made a great pick. ;)

Date: 2011-04-01 01:27 pm (UTC)I didn't actually see Katee on CSI, did you? But from the brief clips of it, I kind of feel like this is going to be the same thing -- she'll tote a gun, act like a hardass, crack a few jokes, big whoop.
(um, clearly I'm in a rant-y mood tonight. Sorry! But I do truly want to know your honest thoughts)

Date: 2011-04-01 01:51 pm (UTC)I do wish this show had as much cache or buzz as something like Powers probably will (esp. if they do snag Kyle Chandler as Christian). I wish it were on another network with a better track record too (or maybe network TV possibly so it would give them a broader audience). It's got some things that I personally don't like (Western settings usually make me snooze, not a fan of romance between Katee and someone who looks like he could be her dad).
But I liked the script. It actually has far more character moments than it does straight procedural, which I realized when I read it a bit more slowly/closely. I liked the relationships in the show. And the cast has a good pedigree. I also read rather randomly a nice shoutout that said Greg Yaitanes, who is directing the pilot, really knows how to bring something special and unique to the table, which is encouraging. And I think it's almost definite that AMC will pick it up for a series. Which means something we actually get to see!
And a 13-episode cable show schedule also gives Katee freedom to do other roles. So who knows where else she might pop up?
Anyway, that's my take on it. I'm being optimistic because this is what she chose, and I'm enough of a fan that I'd watch her read the phone book pretty much and still enjoy it. ;) It has potential...we'll see what happens I guess?
